Willow

The trunk
twisted, crouching
in the shadows,
bent like the back
of an old man
on a cane

the roots
forcing down,
piercing the soil,
willing their claws
deeper and deeper

the leaves,
hinging limply
like a cascade of green,
clinging to the branches;
the small buds
slowly bursting

the branches
flexing, swaying
like silk threads
light as
a feather
in the breezes

the weeping willow
silent
in sorrow, whispering
a magical melody
filled with
peace and harmony.

It was for a school assignment: we were to create a poem, not necessarily a rhyming one, but it had to have various poetic devices. Anyway, just wondering what you thought of it.
