In some ways yes but I wouldn't want them to have the chance to prove us wrong.

Agreed on your last point and that is what the FCC wants as well

No the problem was they didn't have enough capital to cover the hedges people made against sub primes.

Of course the bank shouldn't, but that's my point. If Wall St was better kept in check then we wouldn't have had that problem

no. I'm staunch Ron Paul libertarian but I think him and his son are fucking retards for thinking that there should be less regulation. There should be tons more.

I'm all for cutting everything including the DoD budget

shits gotten way out of control in the past 10 years

It didn't. What it did was push a whole bunch of bullshit requirements out on the loan originators that actually make it harder for the customer to understand what he's spending his money on, and easier for the bank to hide or misrepresent bullshit fees.

And @ "read the bill" That's the new fucking catchphrase with everything. You know why everyone says, "have you actually read the bill?" Because they KNOW the answer is no. Because NO ONE reads that shit. And if they did read the actual text of the bill, they wouldn't have any fucking clue what it meant. Why? Because we're not lawyers, asshole.

What I did was work on the front lines implementing those new policies in the mortgage industry. I had to stand there in front of hundreds of people and "sell" this new process to the people who had to use it every day, knowing that it was only making the situation worse. Why? Because it was federal law and we had no choice.

Your costs would go up if internet companies had the ability to censor what you saw.

While I agree that Fannie and Freddie should be dealt with, this wasn't the right bill to do it.

YES! Lets then let everyone from Goldman Saks come and decide what the regulations for Wall Street should be!

Great idea!

we can deregulate wall street when the government isn't holding the bag for all the big firms

until then we can continue to live in fascism

Considering Exxon really has nothing to do with it, I'd hang in there and wait for all this market hype to die down.

Yes. Corporations are big evil monsters that will eat your babies.

People who think this way can't see past their own front door. They don't have any concept of how an economy actually works. They don't think about where their money goes once it leaves their hands, or where it comes from before it gets into them. To them, money is finite and everyone who takes it from them is stealing and everyone who gives it to them should be giving them more. Ironically, liberals tend to be the MOST greedy people of all.

The point is that if left to their own devices corporations will fuck over whoever they need to in the name of profit. That applies across the board.

Think that one through, regulations didn't stop ___. So we should add more of them ?

And especially when most regulations are made up BY THE COMPANIES. Philip Morris wrote one of the recent laws against ciggs. Why ? because they could easily afford the extra bullshit but their competition would most likely go out of business.
