the highest that we men have, wherby we are distingushed from the animal is our capacity to think rationally and decide. When we use our reason and act, we normally will be far more correct in our actions and behaviour as per laws and social conducts and rules. Because these have been laid down by a learned and wise man for the convenience of our social behaviour and life. Locke and Marx thought ourt rationally a system whereby society could live harmoniously. But man is primarily governed not by his reason but by his desires, ambitons, habits, instinct, etc.. Thus Machiavellian priciple says do what is convenient, practical and opportune.
