The reason I ask is because I am reading about vets who are A Little nuts ,or out of their mind, sick, dying ,when they should be getting cared for By the V.A. So If you know a person of this description. Ask them if they ever were in the military ! Ask their Friends,Family. All G.I. S were told when they joined the military, all through basic training "The Gov. Will Take Care Off You " i must have heard it thousands of times. I gave it little heed at that age .A Lot Of Guys Gave It Little thought and died from war illnesses. So Everyone waves the Flag. So Now Help Out The Olde Vet!

I have served for the past 22 years in the Army - my Father was a WW II vet and my oldest brother served in Vietnam while my little brother just retired from the Marine Corps after 20 years. There are a few vets who suffer from mental illness but the vast majority of us are fine - all of us in my family saw combat and we are fine - war has changed us all but hasn't made us nuts. I think many of the vets you refer to have other issues that contribute to their mental illness to include drug and alcohol abuse. I think the VA does a pretty fair job of taking care of vets - they took care of my Father as he died of cancer. Not sure what your point is with all this - the system isn't perfect but it works.

Former Marine, And I don't depend on the VA for anything.

I work, I am of Reasonably good health for and Old Vet and have my own Insurance through my Job.

There are always going to be Problems with the VA as they have more Vets and less people to take care of them.

And not all of us are feeble and or sick from our time in.

Both my grandfather and my husbands grandfather are vets and they do just fine, have their VA benefits and medicare, and are fairly healthy considering they are all around 80.
