Do you judge a cartoon based on animation?

It depends on the cartoon. If you're watching a scripted show, such as, let's say "The Simpsons", you care about the writing. Ren and Stimpy, on the other hand, is 50% animation, acting, and delivery, 50% writing.
 
Sometimes. For example, one reason I like the Warner Bros. cartoon shows (i.e. Animaniacs) is because there is usually a lot of fluidity in the animation.
 
I'm more influenced by the artwork, with the animation coming in second. If it's something I find hard to look at, chances are I'm not going to watch.
 
Well, yeah... :shrug: If it flows nicely and looks clean, that's a great bonus. I won't however dismiss it just because of that...
 
Yes. If a cartoon hurts my eyes to look at it, I won't watch it. Certain cartoons (such as Squidbillies) look like they were made by five year olds and there's no excuse for that.
 
I try not to judge, but sometimes when a show has really bad animation or horrible character designs, my enjoyment of the show can severly decrease.
 
"Do I judge a cartoon based on it's animation?", well.....I would say that the animation of the show is very important, but if the show has a boring plot then I am not going to sit there and put myself through an episode just because it looks stunning, it's got to have substance. Sometimes the plot needs to be involving and stretched out for it to tell a good story, sometimes it just needs to entertain me with funny quips and a fun but quick story, if it succeeds in that and the animation is solid then I'm a happy man.

But admittingly, I can watch a show with good animation and a bad plot a little easier than a cartoon with bad animation and a solid plot....I guess I'm just weird.
 
Depends. Sometimes, the writing is good enough that I can listen to a horridly drawn cartoon without subjecting my eyes to the torture of looking at it. Other times, the writing can't make up for that and I just watch something else.
 
Not really. If it is so flawed that even I can tell its low quality, despite not knowing that much about animation to begin with, then I might, but that hasn't happened before. I pay much more attention to the storyline's quality and characters' personalities and development.
 
Good Animation is a plus. It if has a good art style that I enjoy, I'll watch it, like I did with Chowder, Spongebob, SSM, and Flapjack. But however the writing has to be equally as good, if not better, if not, I won't watch it, like the second season of Chowder has been in that department.

After all, if you have all fluid and bouncy animation and no story coherent story, you mostly end up with a mess.
 
I'd say that a decent art direction should be a plus. Examples of shows with good art direction includes "Rocko's Modern Life", certain episodes of "Ren & Stimpy", "Chowder", "Flapjack", and few others I'm forgetting.

Of course, if the writing stinks anyway, I won't bother.

As for a poorly drawn show with good writing, it depends on how poorly drawn the show is and how good the writing is.
