Do you have to paint paintable wall paper?

I have a wall with some flaws. I don't want to refinish the wall, so I thought I would cover it with paintable wall paper because the paper has texture and would cover the flaws. The wall paper comes in white. Can I leave the wall paper white, or do I have to paint it? I'm worried it may discolour if its not covered in paint, but I want the wall white.
