Do you have to have an activation code to activate a new sim card with T-Mobile?

I just bought a used phone off ebay for t-mobile and I need a new sim card, but some are advertised with an activation code, and some without. But I noticed that all the ones with an activation code also say prepaid. So I was wondering if I am not getting prepaid services, do I need an activation code for a new sim card to get my phone turned on??? Please help!!!!
 
According to my experience i unlocked the mobile by getting unlock code here & unlocked the mobile safely without vain .
