Do you have to have a lawyer for this?

Let's say that a man is wrongfully convicted of a murder and is trying to get his appeals in and contact innocence projects. Can a friend or family member get all the documents from his attorney, the police, and the prosecutor or do you have to have legal representation to do so?

All of it is public knowledge, go to the court of jurisdiction and request all copies...if you need police reports, go to the law enforcement agency and request copies...do not go through an attorney, they can charge you for what you can get on your own.

If you run into red tape, and they bs you into not allowing copies, file a Freedom Of Information request (FOI)...you can find copies all over online
