Do you have to engage in useless chit chat with co workers?

I don't like to talk. I know you have to engage in useless chit chat with customers but is it necessary to engage in useless chit chat with coworkers (The only time I feel it necessary to talk to them is when it is about business). Will not engaging in useless chit chat with them get me fired?

2nd question: Is there any jobs that do not require degrees that pay 30,000 per year before taxes?
I really do not like school and would like to stay away from the classroom for life (high school was quite enough for me thank you)
 
Not really but kind of. If you don't make the useless boring chitchat then people will start to exclude you and you will be passed over for promotions and so on. It's best to make up the useless chitchat and get through it like that.

2nd question: I work in a factory in Australia (as a minion), and make over $40,000 a year (Aussie dollar is about the same as US dollar at the moment). Manufacturing pays well (at least in does in Australia).
 
As long as you're polite to your boss, there should be no reason why you have to socialize with your co-workers. As for jobs, I think that construction pays well, especially in certain areas.
