I believe that it's rude and redundant to point out something weird or unusual about a person, unless it's a compliment. For instance, I have to use a walking stick to get around, and I wear a hat because my eyes are sensitive to strong light. I have decorated both the stick and the hat to my taste, using feathers on the hat, and leather thongs, a leather pouch, and some beads on the stick. I get a LOT of compliments on both items. which I enjoy. Occasionally a very young child will ask me about my stick, in which case I explain that one of my knees is very bad because I used to play tackle football when I was a little girl, and I hurt it badly and didn't tell my parents. I didn't tell them because I would have been in trouble for playing football again. At any rate, I permanently injured my knee, and now I have to use a stick or cane. It's rude of the child to ask, but generally I let the parent take care of that. If anyone who is old enough to be on the internet unsupervised asks me, though, I generally give them a long stare, and say "how RUDE".
