I'm not on your side of the political spectrum, but here is the short of it.
Go to your local DNC office, start volunteering in any way you can. If you are actually worth anything, you will start to be in contact with people and find out what positions are available (also bs customer service positions). From there, if you can network, there will be something available if you've been working for the DNC for a year.
Politics is nothing but networking and who you know. The more you do it and do it well, the more successful you'll be.
