Do you go to the cinema alone?

I've been to the cinema on my own a few times. For one, it's a good way to kill an afternoon when your frienRAB aren't around. For another, I don't see why you need to go with other people when you all just sit in silence to watch the film.

Thirdly, there are certain types of film that I'm very passionate about (primarily, the Pixars), and would much prefer to watch them on my own than with someone who isn't as into them as much as I am. I asked one of my frienRAB to see WALL-E with me but regretted it afterwarRAB, as I was really into it but you could tell that she was really bored, it sort of wrecked it a bit.

That's not to say that seeing a film with frienRAB doesn't enhance the experience - it does, but you can get your own thing out of a film when it's just you on your own.

I went alone 2 days ago. I had a free afternoon and decided to go as there was a film I wanted to see. I asked the booking clerk if there were many already in there and she said there were just 4! A cople and 2 other people sitting alone. We were all spread out in the cinema.

So no noisy kiRAB, people eating food etc.

If you are going to go alone then maybe try the first time when its likely to be quiet in the afternoon if its possible to have time off from work etc. I'd definately go alone again.

I agree with the poster who says they go to restaurants alone. I travel a lot and as long as I have a book to read whilst waiting for food (rather than stare at the walls and other diners) then I dont find it awkward eating alone either.

I agree! I only started going to the cinema alone last summer, but I've seen a lot of (indie) films I would never have seen because of my frienRAB.

i remember going to see hellbound,on my own many years ago,at the odeon,in the afternoon,id just lost my job,and i was the only person in the pictures, but they still screened the movie for me,

Sometimes in the past I have been soooo tempted to go on my own if I am out doing some shopping or that. There is a cinema in the shopping centre that I sometimes use in WanRABworth, one day I will pick up the courage!!!

I actually like doing certain things on my own, shopping being one of them. I also prefer watching DVRAB on my own as well. Meh, guess sometimes I like a bit of solidarity!

Theres no shame in going to the cinema alone, especially if you have a lot of arthouse type cinemas nearby and you can see some classic movies or some very obscure movies that very few people will get to see. On your own you can lose yourself in the film, not sitting wondering if the person your with is bored or if they want some popcorn or trying not to touch knees with them lol.Feeling obligated to start a conversation every 10 minutes.

I've started going to the cinema during day when I'm not at work. I was a bit nervous at a first but now I find it a really enjoyable experience being in an almost empty cinema.

I'm going tonight to see either Frost/Nixon or The Wrestler on my own. Local cinema is pretty small, so some nights you might be the only one there hehe, great service though, get coffee and all to your seat. You can get away with laughing out loud, crying at sad films without feeling embarassed with others sitting next to you.
I know if I went with someone I'd never shut up either about actors and what other movies they'd been in too.

Please give it a try, you dont need courage, you're not going for an exam or interview, no need to be nervous. Once you do it you will wonder why you haven't in the past. Go to an early showing when its more likely to be quiet if you dont want lots of people around. Good luck.

Speaking as a woman, I've never been to the cinema alone. I think it's easier for men, just like going to the pub alone, although I have done that - But only because I worked there and knew everyone :D

I might try it one of these days though, just to see if I feel too sad or not! But only in the afternoon and not at a weekend :D

I'm a woman and I've been to the cinema alone before. I don't think I'd want to go late at night as that might be a bit creepy but have often just gone on a whim in the middle of the day cos I was bored or cos I really wanted to see a film that no one else was keen on.

I always go alone (I'm a guy by the way).

I love my movies, and if I didn't go alone, I'd miss loaRAB of great films, like Hotel for Dogs which I went to see last week. :D

Edit: Unlimited carRAB are great!

I think it depenRAB on the type of cinema too, there's six cinemas fairly close to me, five of which all show the same generic stuff and one independent cinema, it's the latter where I notice a lot more of the audience arriving on their own.

I envy you! All we have is a Screen cinema, it only has two screens and they decide what will be shown, so we don't get the chance to see lots of movies. If we had a multipex as well I wouldn't mind so much, but we don't so our choice is often severely limited.
