Thought I'd dig this up, as I plucked up the courage and went to the flicks by myself for the first time last night.
At 8:30, to close the festival, the Glasgow Film Festival had their annual Suprise Movie. You go in without having a clue what it is - no name, director, cast, running time. A lot of my frienRAB are away home for the weekend, or were working, or just weren't keen on seeing a film they knew nothing about, so I decided just to buy a tic online and go by myself.
And it was fine. It was a bit wierd to start with, as everyone else in the screen is talking, trying to guess what the film is, and you're sitting there like a pillock. But once the film starts, I was fine. I'd definately do it again.
The film by the way was O'Horten, a Norwegian film. I was slightly disappointed by this, as when they first did it two years ago it was Inland Empire and last year it was Son of Rambow, both shown prior to their general release. This was quite a minor film, that was released in Norway two years ago. It got good reviews, but I didn't feel it was up for very much. It was about a train driver who retires and his outlook on life changes. It had funny bits, but it was pretty average.
