Do you feel sad that all the cartoons/shows you watched as a kid are now over?

I disagree entirely.

Yogi and Huck were and still are AWESOME! I showed my kid and my nephew those toons and they love them. I DVR Boomerang Zoo for them to watch and they laugh hysterically. They also like Snag and Quick Draw. God rest the soul of the legendary Daws Butler.

I've never been a big Secret Squirrel fan. He sounds EXACTLY like Sylvester The Cat from Looney Toons, and SS pales in comparison to Sylvester in terms of entertainment value. Mel Blanc or whoever did the voice should have made him sound different.

I don't get this. How can you say that you detest Animaniacs and then say it's not terrible? Doesn't "I detest it" mean that you think it's terrible? Or am I just misunderstanding?

A bit sad that CW didn't air Kirby for as long as I hope & CN has Hamtaro banished from i's network for good.

yet I'll live with it

Yes and no. I'm not really that sad that because shows have to end at some point.

I'd say yes because a lot of the shows I watched when I was younger are no longer on and some haven't even been released on dvd.

Nickelodeon has basically ignored all of its older cartoons. They haven't shown Doug, Hey Arnold, or even some of it's older live action shows like Are You Afraid of the Dark, and Kenan & Kel in awhile. All Nickelodeon is now is Spongebob, Fairly OddParents, Drake & Josh, and some other newer shows.

I don't watch a lot of tv in general anymore. It's all reality show crap and Law & Order. There's not much variety on tv anymore it's all similar shows with slight differences.

This post confuses me. First, you claim that "old" cartoons were better than "new" cartoons without specifying what "old" means (like, are you saying that cartoons from all previous decades were better than 00's cartoons or are you referring to some specific era?). And your list of "good" and "bad" cartoons are so utterly subjective that i really wish you would have said something like "in my opinion" rather than just presenting these shows as objective examples of good and bad shows (specifically since you didn't give any kind of reason for why the listed shows are good or bad). And, seriously, while i know that the notion of what is and isnt of "quality" is a completely subjective thing, i just cant get over the fact that you take a show like TMNT as an example of a good "old" show, an The Simpsons as an example of a bad one. I can understand that you personally have an affinity for TMNT but not for The Simpsons but still, trying to argue that TMNT is actually a better show? Im sorry, but i just cant allow something like that to go by unchallenged.

Not necessarily. I can name any number of shows I "detest", but realize aren't necessarily bad, they just don't appeal to me.

dude...yer honestly lumping adult animated shows in with shows that are meant for children/the whole family?

I honestly wouldn't recommend that, because they're both aiming for different audiences entirely.

It's like asking "why can't the Wild West COW Boys of Moo Mesa aim for the same level of sophistication that King of the Hill goes for". Two entirely different demographics, good sir....

And yes, I do enjoy both shows.

There's a reason for that: it's because we're almost at 2010, it's not the 90's anymore. Nick doesn't aim its' it's programming schedules at 20-something-year-old nostalgia buffs, they aim them at kids. There's no profit in running a bunch of canceled reruns all day long. Whether we like it or not, TV is a business, and in order for a business to succeed it needs to keep moving forward, not constantly look back.

The occasional resurgence of the older shows every now and then is a nice treat, but it shouldn't be in place of the newer shows, especially when they've long since stopped making new episodes. With no new episodes coming down the pike, 10-year-old reruns can only be broadcast so many times before viewers start switching them off.

I agree that complete series DVD sets of some of these shows would be nice, but I don't understand why so many people want or expect networks like Nick and Toon to just replay their 90's schedules over and over until the end of time. That's not progress, nor is it profitable.

It's bittersweet for me. When the show first ends, even without a proper finale, I get upset. However, thanks to the wonders of cable/satellite, I've been able to catch shows I used to watch, and sometimes, it doesn't have that spark, all thanks to getting older and/or changing tastes. On the other hand, I'm happy that the show ended when it did, and wasn't run to the ground. That, and DVD releases.

Man, this is about what I expected. The toons from the 00's simply aren't getting the same treatment as the cartoons from the 90's.

JLU returning to CN in reruns, but not The Batman, really says a lot. CN is also bringing back reruns of older shows, for those who haven't heard.

The TMNT 2k3 series will apparently be airing on Nick next year, it'll be interesting to see that air side by side with Nick's new TMNT show.

I thought that JLU and The Batman were both from the 00's. The Batman wasn't around in the 90's, so I'm not sure what you're trying to say there with that example of cartoons from the two different decades.

But JLU is the same continuity as B:TAS, which means it has a link to a series that started in the 90's.

I think of Kevin Conroy's Batman as a "90's Batman," even if he's still in shows in the 2000's.

Not really. The Batman did air on Cartoon Network for a while, but the ratings weren't all that great, so they never repeated it there. TB was also airing on Boomerang for a while.

And the reason Toon is re-airing JLU has nothing to do with Toon considering JLU to be better than The Batman (if that's what you're implying); it has more to do with how Toon never gave JLU's last season much play (and for what I suspect are slightly more self-serving reasons--see below). I don't think they even aired those episodes in reruns.

Indeed they are, though I honestly can't get too excited about that. Why? Because I have a sneaking suspicion that this latest move is less about Toon gaining a newfound fondness for old school and more about them trying to keep the complainers pacified, happy and distracted so they can continue to plot more nonsense for the network without having to hear cries of "Why don't they just bring (fill-in-the-blank old Toon show) back??"

If JLU, Johnny Bravo, The Pink Panther, Looney Tunes and the like are still on Toon 6 months to a year from now, then we can consider this a victory for the retro-lovers.

Constant boo-hooing that cable networks are no longer airing cartoon shows that ended 10-15 years ago is really starting to give me a huge headache.

I loved all those old shows too, but people really, really need to stop living in the past and just deal with the fact that these networks don't care about what we want because we're not in their target demographics and it's all about what's popular NOW and what kids today are into.

And for the record I agree with every single thing Silverstar said in the post above this one.

Justice League Unlimited >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The Batman

And to Silverstar, Boomerang aired the JLU reruns for over a year. They ran a huge marathon on a Saturday a few months back before taking them off. I'm glad CN is bringing them back though. Next to the Boondocks, it's the best original toon ever aired on CN.

And the overrated "The Batman" still airs on Boomerang.

All I gotta say is....THANK GOD for Boomerang.

While the channel isn't without flaws, it's far and away better than CN and reminds me of just how much better toons used to be.

I'm not a huge fan of The Batman either, but all the same I think we should avoid making pat assessments about which shows are good, bad or better than others, because that's all just opinion and opinions can and will differ. People stating their opinions as facts is how arguments get started, so I try to avoid it. Plus, which shows we personally like or don't like is irrelevant to this topic.

Also, Boomerang aired the reruns of JLU for 4 years.
