TERRIBLE
IT is as bad as childbirth.........

I almost pass out the pain behind my sternum is so bad...
i don't sweat
don't feel faint
but it is a tighness, a vice like feeling, and it is intolerable, not just a
mild burning sensation

nothing relieves it, except Nexium.....didn't take it this morning, only take it once in a while, and my daughter and I got into a terrible fight yesterday,
had a strong cup of coffee this morning, a slim fast, and boom an hour later, it hit me.
I got home and shaking, i took a nexium about 15 minutes ago, and it's getting better.
This is the worst thing i have ever experienced in my life, and I'm not a pill popper or a hypochondriac.
VERY VERY SCARY....This is my third bout, first time went to urgent care, nothing conclusive.....
Man guess gonna have to give up coffee too.......

Feels like the worst colic in the world...it absolutely doubles me over, in agony.

Thanks for your replies. I hope everyone is having a good day today. I agree the mucous has to be related to the heartburn issue. Mine just seem to all come on so fast it is scary. Never had heartburn in my life until now....at least that I know of. I'm an anxious / nervous person and I'm laid off from my job right now and dealing with a lot of stress. I think this is all contributing.

My doctor also recently put me on a medication for slight hypothyroidism...so I have no clue if the mucous thing has anything to do with my thyroid either. All my other blood work came back good. I do have Discoid Lupus (which affects skin only) and have taken a prescription anti- inflamatory for several years.

Thanks for all your advice and experience. I will let you know if I find anything else out.

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to chime in here, but I have had a lot of problems with gerd, and after trying everything under the sun to relieve the symptoms, I starting using Apple Cider Vinegar, you can buy it in liquid or tablet form in most health shops. It is the only thing that really worked for me.

Look up Gerd and apple cider vinegar on the net, there is loaRAB of info.

Good luck

I did after haveing a stroke it comes and goes last week it was really bad it scared me i thought i was going to have another stroke. i kept please lord not again. i try to watch what i eat now. i do have chest pain with that nasty stuff.

The chest x-ray was actually before I had the endoscopy. Ordered it because I was complaining of chest pain. He also thought he heard some wheezing, but he thought it was coming more from my esophagus rather than my lungs.

It's been a while, though I have continued reading and looking for answers. A lot has happened since I first posted.

First, I did go back to my GP but not until after I had to have oral (dental) suregery. After this surgery I was given of course pain medication (narcotics) that I had to take for about a week. At first, I felt great. Everyone kept asking if my heartburn/chest pain were better because they could tell I felt so good, and it was! But.....I kept thinking...but I'm on pain medication....so not sure if that is why. I was also taking anti-biotics at the time as well and I wondered if that was why I felt so much better. Anyway, toward the end of that week on pain meRAB, my symptoms became way worse than ever before. My chest seemed to hurt everywhere. My back burned so bad I couldn't stand for very long and I would be constantly rubbing my back and shoulders. I made a trip to Ohio to see my only granddaughter who was turning one and I was literally miserable the entire time, trying to just put on a happy face, but with the pain constantly there and the anxiety increasing.

As soon as I got back from my trip, I made appt. with my GP. I told her things were not better but worse. I told her about the horrible pain in my back between my shoulder blades. I told her the chest thing was now way more pain than burning and indegestion was strong even after sipping water. The mucouls (she called globulus) or feeling of lump in throat was worse and driving me crazy. I still could not and can not contribute the pain to a particular food other than I know I can't drink coffee and raw veggies are pretty much out. Other than that I can't determine the effects of different fooRAB.

So, I've had an abdominal ultra sound (checking gallbladder) which doctor said is fine, but....might need another test hideascan (something like that) if no answers and symptoms don't improve.

I've been to GI and had endoscopy last Wednesday...he also started me on Kapadex which I have been taking for 20 days now. After the endoscopy, he came in and said I had some acid reflux and gastritis, and gave me some information on GERD. He said that I had a small amount of bile in my stomache that we "might" have to invesitgate further...and I don't know what that means or what bile in your stomach might mean. He also scheduled me for an Esophageal Manometry which I was supposed to have this Thursday, but has to be rescheduled. Oh....btw, they did do biopsy or biopsies...but I have not heard anything back on those yet. What he wrote on the initial findings was "reflux esophagitis" and "gastritis". Anyone know how long it takes to hear back on biopsy?

He said he wanted to do the Manometry because I am still having symptoms. I'm assuming too because I told him that I have pain in my chest when swallowing (not my food or drink) but my normal swallowing...like muscles are tugging. I'm not thrilled about having to have this test done. I'm hoping it is not unneccesary. I'm just weary from feeling like this and not responding to the medications they have tried. Anyone else have this test done? Get any answers? I was told it is uncomfortable but not as bad as you think? I'm having some anxiety over the test as well.

On top of all that, my GP wants to run a full round of blood work even though it was all done 3 months ago when all of this started. Thank goodness for my insurance, but the copays/dectables are starting to hurt. I feel like all I do is go to doctors appointments or have tests and still keep feeling worse and worse. Makes me feel like they are missing something completely...sigh.

Sorry for the book, but I felt I should come in and update, rather than just post and then not let anyone know what has been going on.

I had never had pain like that in my life! I also had indigestion and I'd pop a tum and it would go away. I was never so scared when that pain first hit me. Thanks, and I hope everyone has a good day today too!!
