Do you clean a cycling fish tank ?

I have a 55 gallon that is cycling and i put some fish food in there and it settled at the bottom and there is like a bubble of fulid around it and its nasty so i am asking can you use a gravel vacuum to clean a cycling fish tank? also if you can please name some do's and don'ts w/ a cycling fish tank
