Do you buy DVD's....

Do you / have you purchase DVD's solely because of the star, even if you don't like the film ?
I "aquired" the Peter Kay DVD "Driven To Distraction, simply because Peter Kay is in it !:o
 
Years ago I did go through a phase of buying Jean-Claude Van Damme videos on the cheap on e-bay, in pursuit of a complete 'JCVD arse collection'. I'm not seeking to upgrade to DVD.
 
I used to buy anything Sarah Michelle Gellar was in, when I was a teenager.

Not any longer though, I do buy films because they are part of a certain series of films though, no matter how crap.
 
Nope. not films. I do for stand up DVD's if they are cheap. I've got all the Lee Evans, Jimmy Carr and Billy Connolly. I'm also more likely to do that with music albums than films.
 
I went through a phase of buying everything I could find with Jonathan Rhys Meyers in.

I am always buying films I haven't seen.
 
I bought "Spider" because it was directed by Cronenberg. As it happened, I didn't like it, but I didn't know that when I bought it. Similarly with several early del Toro films, with Pan's Labyrinth being the only one I liked. So for me it's more about directors than stars.

I have watched films because of the star, or at least tried to, but often it doesn't work out and I give up. Eg I started to watch Mammoth for Summer Glau, to see what's she's like when she's not playing a dysfunctional girl/robot character, but frankly it's not a great film.
 
I don't buy Dvd's often. Well movies that is. I perhaps buy about 4 a year. And maybe get given a movie or two for xmas

I tend to download movies and see if they are good before wasting my money.
 
Ha. Such a lie and you know it :D

We all say that, but for the vast majoroty of films we download and like, we do not go and buy the DVD. Its the old download pirates speech.

No i actually do. I do that with Music as well. I like to physically own something then it be a file on my computer. It so just happens all the movies I'm planning to buy happen to be in the 2 for 10 pound sales at HMV
 
Not true for all of us, I use downloading as a sampler basically, if I like I usually buy. There's movies I would have never have bought in a million years if I hadn't downloaded them first.
 
I buy films for two reasons.

- I've seen the film and like it.

- I haven't seen the film but it's on a subject I like and it's cheap.

I'd never buy one just because some actor I like is in it or because it was directed by someone who had done good films before. I like John Cusack as an actor but I've still only got 3 of his films (Grosse Point Blank, High Fidelity and Max).
