Do you break the ice (socially, no jokes). If so, how ?

I was just wondering what you all did and how you initiated conversations and so on. If at all. Also would you do it with strangers in the case of say, a long train journey stuck next to someone??
If someone speaks to you would you give short answers and just go quiet? Is that out of disinterest in speaking to randoms, or shyness?

Does it matter what the age or gender is? For example are you more inclined to speak to the opposite sex, or less? Or to old women etc.

I am not looking for tips on how to do, just find it fascinating and want to know how it goes with you so I can compare.

I'll strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, any time LOL

Seriously.

I'm the world's worst for engaging complete strangers in all kinds of settings and under all kinds of circumstances.

Though I should probably point out that I'm a horribly confident bloke and wouldn't know how to be shy or timid if my life depended on it.

The only preference I have is for women with whom I would like to get intimate. But beyond that I'll engage anybody - young, old or in between, male, female, straight, bent, big, small, tall, short, good looking or butt ugly; I just don't care about any of that when I go looking for their personalities.

I especially like engaging much older people because they have so much life experience to share if you can get them to share their wealth in that department.

They are probably the most literally fascinating group of people on earth.
