military base? just look at the geography of Afghanistan, if the US have a permanent military base there, they would be close to China and Russian in strategic points.
We are not there just to get a base. Cost/benefit analysis is not worth it. Plus we have the ability to deploy troops to anywhere in the world within a couple of days right now, so its not really worth it.
