Do you believe flamboyancy/femininity ruins gay people's image?

First note, that i am gay myself.

Ok, I actually see why so many heterosexuals believe homosexuality is wrong. In my opinion, i believe gays would be treated more fairly if we as a whole acted more respectful and more adapted to todays's societal norms rather than dancing on the streets half, or completely naked (as it's happened before). Have you ever seen it? They are practically having sex on the street in places the law permits nudity! Things like this, in my opinion, is what makes America view us as "sexual deviants" and "flamboyant wusses" and what keep us from marrying or serving in the military.

This is what makes me, as a gay person, feel more afraid to admit to anyone my sexuality, lest i not be stereotyped as these kinds of people.

Point is, does anyone else believe it is the gay "culture" that is ruining gay rights from progressing?

Please let me hear you're guys' thoughts, thank you.
Off course one does not NEED to conform and follow norms. But politically and socially, i've personally seen no respect come towards any stereotypical gays. Me being non-as-stereotypical. I've been accepted by my own family, self-proclaimed homophobes, and pro-marriage enemies!! That's a significant difference for me.
