I honestly believe that it is a very dangerous tool. You have to remember, alot of this stuff that people are using to murder, rape and assault other people they learn from tv. All of these movies that show people strangling others with a plastic bag. Its all real stuff, obviously the people in the movies dont really die, but they do in real life.
Take the show JackAss for example. Jonny Knoxville is the star and the idea is to do as much stupid shit illegal and self harming as possible to get ratings. All of these younger kids watch this stuff and say hey, he can do it then so can I. They proceed to go out and try it and get hurt or killed.
People get so involved in the reality shows, get so involved in the soap operas that it becomes part of there life that they cannot seperate themselves from. An example is a guy that I work with. If there is something interesting on tv, you say his name, scream at him he cannot divert his attention. This is killling people's brains. I mean I enjoy movies and tv shows as much as the next guy. But I dont have separation issues.
Its scary that in the news you see the first shooting in 10 years and all of a sudden they are happening like crazy because it gives people an idea. Bank robberies, home invasion's..
Not to mention. I am a police officer. People watch Crime Scene Investigation, and when a crime happens in my medium sized town, they want me to get skin grafts and fingernail clippings and fingerprints out of the dirt. That is not reality. Real police departments do not operate like that the way these people are taught to believe through televison. I mean there is some truth to it. But there car is stolen and they want prints. How many people have touched that car in the past two weeks. How many peoples foot tracks are in your dirt driveway.
