Do we expect too much for the groom to be awestruck at the first sight of the...

...bride? Grooms, how did you feel? Everyone always talks about that one moment, when the groom is at the altar and the bride makes her first appearance in the aisle. The guy is supposed to feel practically struck by lightning, apparently. That's all fine and good and I know this can be a beautiful and romantic moment. But I also think we sometimes expect too much out of it.

Yes, the bride is beautiful, she's wearing a dress he hasn't seen before and has her hair and makeup done, etc. And of course the symbolism of this being his bride and their new start together is huge.

But....I mean, don't you think that sometimes grooms are NOT absolutely sent into a tizzy when they see her? Sure, he thinks she's beautiful and is happy and excited to be marrying her. But it's not like he's just seen a vision.

I only say this because I have seen certain brides absolutely obsess over how he will react, and then on the wedding day he just kind of smiles at her and she gets irritated he didn't drop to his knees and start sobbing. So I wonder, do we expect too much?
