Do V-Twins need special oil in crankcase.

I need to do an oil change in my S50. I have read about certain oils are designed for V-twin engines that will not harm the clutch. Or a good oil with sg/sj API acceptable? Can anyone have heard about any oil that is not good for a v-twin. Thanks!!!:huh::huh::jump:
 
I use 15w50 Mobil 1 in my S50 and have had no problems. I have used synthetic oil (the car type) for many years in motorcycles with no problems at all, not even a flat tire.
You will get opinions which differ from mine. Use the best oil and filter, I change at 5K miles, more often than that is a waste of money but probably will not hurt anything.
Happy riding on your S50. I rode mine a little over 100 miles today, it was a bit cool, mid 40's. I went to the gun range for some handgun shooting, I have to recertify my handgun license soon and wanted to be sure I am ready.

Avoid any oil that has the words "with friction modifiers" on the label, as these additves will stick to the clutch plates and make them slip. Other than that it doesn't matter much.
 
My friend's Harley manual says that diesel oil is good. I bought Rotella T 15-40 for my C90T, and it works very well. It seems to be as heavy as standard Suzuki oil and is MUCH cheaper.
 
I have used castrol gtx in all my cycles and dirtbike gear case, in my car and truck for thiry years and had good results. That is what I want to use, but that is why I am asking about oils. This my first v twin bike and don't want to fry my plates. I thank everyone for the input on this subject. And thank you Dr. Bob, you have helped me more than once. The cold does not stop me, only rain (I forgot what rain looks like anymore since it quit raining here in Georgia), snow or frozen roads. I use 10w40 is winter and 20w50 in summer. I rode my bike today, 8 (4up/4back) miles in the cold. It actually was not all that bad, with the right equipment. My face was a little wind-chilled.. Still, I doubt I would ride 40 miles round trip to work and back. WIth the prices of gas, I am almost considering it... I just need face protection, as the coat and gloves I got are nice.
 
Many "V-Twins" are air/oil cooled engines. Because of the heat, "V-Twin" oil is normally a heavier oil.

Water cooled V-twin engines does not have that problem.
