do tonsils effect your singing voice

I am a singer and over the past few months have been having trouble with my voice. It's starts of with a tender throat and results in my voice being weak and breathy for about 6 weeks. I have got massive tonsils and adnoids. I always get asked if I have a cold as these inflamations block my air ways so much.

A couple of singing teachers in the past have said I must get my tonsils out to open up my throat but I have also heard horror stories of peoles voices being damaged by this operation. When my voice isn't acting strangely, I love it but am definitly thinking of taking the risk to get my tonsils out if it means it will stop the bouts of problematic singing that seem to be occuring more and more frequently.

I have been told that you should use a surgeon who specialises in the voice/throat. Is it possible to receive this specific treatment on the nhs if singing is my livlihood?

Any information about any of the above would be most most appreciated.
Thankyou

My voice changed a bit after having my tonsils out a few years ago. But after everything was fully healed, after like 3 or 4 months, my voice was back to normal.

What you need to understand about a tonsillectomy is that your entire throat is inflamed and irritated after the procedure. Once that inflammation and irritation subsides, however, things will get back to normal.
