Do they paint colors sound silly?

I'm wanting to repaint my bathroom. However, I'm wondering if I'm going overboard. lol I'd like to paint the walls a plum, or similar dark purple color. Would it look silly to paint my trim/door moldings a lighter purple of the same shade? Our toilet/sink/tub is white. Or should I just leave the trim/door moldings white as is? Is there a general rule on painting your trim in a color?
 
No, I'd paint the trim plum too. Painting the trim white would chop up an already tiny room........we did that in the 70's, let's not repeat that. It will be a very different feel, almost cave like, especially if this room receives little direct sunlight. The less light, the darker the plum will feel as well. Sunlight plays a big part of room color. That's why you should do tests before committing the while room.
 
no! i think that would look great...its your bathroom do what you want! and besides if you really dont like it...just paint it over white! no biggie. its something i would do for you for free.
