I read an email response someone put up from MAC, who claimed that their pony and goat hair brushes were made from sheared (living) animals. This may be the case but I was wanting to know if this is true in general for all pony hair brushes? Is there any way to know what brands use sheared hair and what ones use 'dead' hair?

The brushes are made from horses' coat hair, not from their tails.
I'm curious to know because sadly there are a lot of horses slaughtered for meat so it's possible the hair is a by-product of that.
