"Do The Bartman" Just Aired on FOX

In memory of Michael Jackson, FOX just aired the "Do The Bartman" music video from the early 1990s. Took me by total surprise, as it probably did for many, many people who probably have never seen this video.

Of course, it was followed up by an episode from this season, showing off just how stiff and boring the animation has become.

Yeah, I saw it. Nice of FOX doing that. Of course, it would have been even better if they aired the episode that Michael actually lent his voice too.

I never got why if it had been MJ lending his voice, why no one would ever ever admit to it. But still, at least it was something.

Maybe they figured the actual episode wouldn't hold up in Digital/HD.

I believe it been confirm for years that was indeed Michael Jackson voicing the character. Plus at the end of the music video they show a picture of Homer and MJ's character thus confirming it was him.

Yeah it reminded me how much things have changed. How much better I liked the main characters in the beginning. Bart was cool, Lisa wasn't such a know it all nag, and Homer actully put effort into being a parent. The good old days.

Michael Jackson: 'The Simpsons' to re-air 'Do the Bartman' video in tribute on Sun

.Hopefully they will add the bump at the end of the episode w/ Jackson on it

I just figured it's due to the fact that the guys from The Simpsons were under contract to keep Michael's identity a secret under the alias "John Jay Smith" and only revealed it later down the line because, I don't know, I guess they could by that point.*shrugs* Although I think they first hinted this during the episode "Itchy and Scratchy: The Movie".

I can't remember if this was stated in the commentary for the episode he stared in, but is it true that Michael's contract specifically stated he wouldn't be lending his singing voice (and thus had to be replaced by a soundalike)?

It was him. He provided the speaking voice for Leon Kompowsky but contractual obligations prevented them from revealing that it was him voicing the character. He was credited as John Jay Smith. Jackson didn't do the singing voice though.

Also, after this episode, if a celebrity wanted to do a guest spot on the show, they had to be credited with their real name.

I wasn't sure because why would they not have him play as himself instead of a one-shot character like Leon. They did that with Aerosmith and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, unless those guys were in later eps.

I was thinking about this at work today, if The Simpsons would pay some sort of tribute to the late Mr. Jackson...and sure enough, they did. I tuned in in the middle of the video, at Lisa's sax solo ("My ears! Lisa! Put that saxophone away!"). Kinda wished Fox 5 NY had the "Start Over" feature in my cable box, so I could see the entire video from the beginning.

And I also thought it would have been cool to see the episode with Homer in the nuthouse with that guy who thought he was Michael Jackson.

But maybe the Homer/"Michael Jackson" episode will air in the syndicated episodes. You think?:tweety::tweety:

Before we continue about the credit in that episode, the FOX airing we saw eariler was edited a little. The beginning of the video, where we see the family entering the school was cut, probably for time reasons.

Check your Season DVD to see if I'm lying. But, I've heard there's a different version of the music video somewhere, as the DVD said it was the "Director Cut".

Because they were more creative back then... and didn't just want to name drop people. Er... also they specifically didn't want people to know it was Michael Jackson.

There are two different versions, but one change I notice in them is that one is an extended dance sequence with the Cool Kids, and one shorten to show people dance around Statue of Liberty, and you also saw that spy kid from the episode where Bart went to France in front of a wall.

I thought it was awesome and I wished they showed that original episode. I think my region showed it a few months ago, and it was still good. I was most impressed how fluid the characters moved in this. It's a lot fresher then watching the show today. I'm glad people got to see that again on TV. Nice tribute.
