Do teachers have any rights to swear and look through your mobile phone?

My English teacher regularly tells people to "shut the f*** up" or if someone annoys him, he will say "For f*** sake, do you have to be an annoying sh**?". When someone really does annoy him, that's when his anger strikes.

I brung my mobile phone to school because I was going to need it after school and I couldn't go home after school. I had to go straight to the hospital because my auntie was having a baby. I thought my phone was on silent, but it was on and it said I had received a text from my auntie telling me she had the baby and its gender, etc. My English teacher conviscated my phone and after trying to tell him I needed it urgently, he said he didn't care and that I should of left it at the office. But if you drop your phone off at the office, they don't accept it for some stupid health and safety reason (How is it a health and safety danger?! It's just a phone!!) I told my English teacher that they don't accept mobiles there and he told me I was telling bull**** and that he was keeping it for the rest of the month. I later caught him going through my phone in the staff room and when I told him to get off it, he called me a liar "because it was my friend's phone". So I told him to give me the phone to prove it. It had my contacts, texts, everything in it. So I took the phone from him and he said he was going to tell the principal.

My mum said teachers don't have any rights to swear or browse through my phone. Is this true? Plus, I am now nervous that the principal is going to get angry at me and punish me. :/ What is the worst punishment she could possibly give out? Thanks!!
