do tadpoles have tails like a fish?

my son find a tadpole with a red tail like a fish. we save it and put in his fish tank.

Depending on the species most tadpoles do possess tails, however these will eventually be lost during Metamorphosis.

Also I would like to suggest that you return the tadpole to it's natural environment, if the aquarium contains fish then the tadpole won't last for very long.
