I had l4-l5 fusion and I am 1 month post. I did not have immediate relief like some you hear. Pain in leg that bothered me the most is not that bad anymore, but now my other leg hurts more. This is to be expected right now because it is still too early to see how well things will be. This is a long and slow recovery! If you have pain in your leg then the nerve is being pressed on more. If you let this go too long without surgery you could have nerve damange. This is what happened to me. It is a hard choice either way I know. I had no other option and the pain was getting worse. I was scared I would have more damange if I waited longer. Only you know your body and your pain. Make sure if you go with surgery that you get a good surgeon! Take care!

The surgery which my surgeon recommendated is MicroDiskectomy not fusion, he said MicroDiskectomy is not terrible but fusion may is. It is said that the fusion rarely is used to treat herniated disks. It maye be used if you've had spinal instability or have had several recurrent disk heniations at the same level. But I haven't decided to go to MicroDiskctomy. If I don't do the surgery,I only have one result : I will have this kind of pain forever even it is moderate pain unless I can find a new treatment can save me. if I go to do the surgery . I will have two results. one is gettig better or no change, another is getting worse or fail.
Can we just trust what doctor said about success rate before the surgery?
