Do Praying Mantis serve any purpose in a garden?

I saw 2 baby ones in my garden and thought about killing them but decided against it. I had an adult one fly into my house last year and it scared the hell out of me.

1) Do they serve any benefit to the garden in terms of killing insects or anything?

2) Can they bite or hurt a human?

3) Are they normally found in Pennsylvania? I've never seen them around here before. I wonder if one of my neighbors is putting them in their garden for a reason and they're flying over.
Also is it safe to oick an adult one up with my hands or will they attack?

They eat other bugs and are beneficial in Gardens. Yes you can pick them up if you are careful, but you might hurt it. No, they don't bite or hurt humans.

The Mantis is a bug eater, They grow fairly huge.

You dont want to touch them cuz they have razor sharp sword like hands.

You can buy the egg of a mantis at a garden shop. They are pretty much organic bug replant in a way.

But like i said they are not human friendly.
