Not much. Writing is usually a secondary, unreliable source of income. A lot of novelists and poets have other jobs and write when they have the time.
Of course, if you become a well-established author, you will make a lot more money. But you can't really count on that. Best thing to do if you plan to be an author as a career is to research publishers that won't scam you and will market your work for you in order to attract an audience. If you want to make money or be discovered, marketing your works to target audiences is key.

depends. poets generally don't make a lot. they just suffer and write jk but I don't think they amass great wealth.
