For example, my cousin who has clinical depression is always way more upset in the spring than in any other season, and i was wondering if that's just something random i noticed or if its just a coincidence.

It's seasonal depression, it's caused by the lack of UVA light. Our body produces melatonin by photosynthesis, and when the days are too short there isn't enough of that chemical for our brain's need. People who are prone to seasonal depression can get light therapy, a simple neon light that provides the rays the sun doesn't.

Yes, I believe it is called seasonal affective disorder. It could help to get in the sunlight or buy a special sunlamp that emulates sunlight. Be sure to have a talk with your doctor.
