Do people backpack and travel in hostels during X-mas time?

I will be travelling to vancouver, canada during dec 24th - Jan 4th. I'm thinking of staying in a hostel...but just wondering. Will there be other people in the hostels traveling too? Or because it's x-mas time.....it will be empty and i'll be the only one there?
