Do more women need to be educated about the plan B pill? I think so. It's NOT an...

...abortion pill? How many women idiotically think that the plan B pill is an abortion pill? It's not. The pill RU486 is the abortion pill. Plan B just keeps the egg from getting fertilized and let's it pass as a NORMAL PERIOD. It's perfectly ok,and it's NOT AN ABORTION PILL. If there's an egg already fertilized,it will NOT HARM THE FETUS. Does anyone else agree that people should be MORE EDUCATED on such things before spouting off such nonsense as it's the abortion pill?? Here are the facts ladies.

Plan B is a way to prevent pregnancy AFTER unprotected sex
Plan B contains only the progestin levonorgestrel
Plan B is not the same as RU-486, the abortion pill marketed as Mifeprex in the United States
You should not take Plan B if you are already pregnant since it will not work; however, taking Plan B if you are pregnant will not cause birth defects
Ah so apparently we have an uneducated woman answering the question. READ. THE. FACTS. IT DOES NOT CAUSE ABORTION.

Read all the info. It prevents an egg from becoming fertilized,if it's fertlized and implanted,it does nothing. read some. and learn that its NOT AN ABORTION PILL.
Exactly,it's not to be used as reg birth control, because after using it so much it could fail and whatnot. It's better to prevent having to use it at all anyways (ie condom, pills, combo of both) it just makes no sense to me how people won't see that it's NOT an abortion pill!
exactly,I feel as if whatever the woman does is her choice, even if I don't agree with it.

I completely agree. I absolutely cannot believe the narrow-mindednes and sheer stupidity of people who actually think emergency contraception is in any way a bad idea. I respect everyone's right to an opinion but Plan B is NOT the same thing as abotion, and you can't apply the same morals and objections because you would only need to consider an abortion when you know you are definitely pregnant, and having taken Plan B there is a slimmer chance of that happening because Plan B serves entirely different purposes, which is to prevent fertilization in the first place. WHY oh WHY would you disagree with something that could prevent a situation arising where a woman (and her potentially her partner) have to make a decision about abortion? Refusing Plan B can surely only raise the amount of unwanted pregnancies- I accept that it is not 100% effective and that unwanted pregnancies will still arise, but it is for that reason that I can't accept the view that abortion is wrong and therefore Plan B is wrong and that abortion and Plan B are the same thing. They don't even have the same purpose, how can you even compare them? I don't disagree with abortion- I can only assume that those who do have either no idea what it's like to grow up knowing you were an unwanted accident, or have (miraculously) only had an entirely positive experience of that, and also have no inkling over the horrendous situations that can be behind being pregnant when you don't want to be (and shame on you and your ignorance if you don't), or any idea what a difficult and enormous decision aborting a baby actually is. People who think Plan B is the same as abortion should ask women who've had abortions (or, for that matter, women who've had to give up their babies) whether given the choice they'd have taken Plan B at the time.
