Do-It-Yourself ways to attach straps to character/ballroom dance shoes to keep your feet from coming out?

I need to get a pair of character dance shoes (or ballroom/performance shoes) with a 2.5" heel but my feet often come out of heels when I walk (even when they have straps). The choreography I'll be performing in has a lot of vigorous kicks/turns/etc, so I want to ensure my feet will be secured so they won't slip out during the dance.

Is there a good DIY way to attach extra straps or something similar to the dance shoes to keep them firmly on my feet?
