Do immigrants (legal) only try to fit into the dominant culture if they have to?

Isn't it obvious that when numbers are large, immigrants would prefer to stay within their own culture (the minority culture)?

Examples:

Mexicans in the Southwestern US
Pakistanis in the UK
Turks in Germany
Americans and Canadians in wealthy Mexican areas (Lake Chapala, San Miguel de Allende)

None of these particular groups are trying to fit into the dominant cultures because they don't have to. Why bother learning a new language (extremely difficult) or new culture (even more difficult!) if you don't have to?

I live in an area where the majority is oriental immigrants. In fact My wife and stepson are both immigrants. My son just completed an enlistment in the US Army - including a tour of duty in Iraq.

Considering that he has displayed more patriotism than 99% of the people born here - maybe you should be asking yourselves if you can be as patriotic as an immigrant.

uhhh...if anything immigrants influence the pre-exist cultures, yes they DO ADAPT but they dont give up their own culture. their culture is passed down through their children and so on. the hispanic culture in the US is in not a "minority" culture, its a culture within itself.

They must learn a new language b/c unfortunately that is ( in an Essence) a requirement of coming to this country, they can speak with each other in their native tongue but sometimes u have to accommodate the larger force.

No, actually they move into our areas and paint over our culture and force their culture upon us.

Actually, most people that go though the hassle of LEGALLY immigrating, do so because they WANT to become part of the dominant culture.
