I realised that I was still holding the ornamental bird. It was the only thing that was keeping me from thinking I had gone insane, for I knew that I had bought it for Emily. I turned it over and over in my hand. What if I was trapped here forever, like a bird in a cage? My eyes began to sting, but no tears came out.
