do i really need photoshop to create my online comic?

i'm too broke to buy it and too scared of viruses to download it.

what can i do/use to have my comics look really good so that i can just scan it and upload it to the web?
i'm not really looking for an alternative photoshop though.

what TRADITIONAL tools can i use.
 
You can get GIMP or if you don't like it look up Photoshop Alternatives and you get alot of quality programs.It doesn't have to be photoshop, don't buy into it.
