Do I own the rights to a free photography session with no release signed?

I did a free session with my brother in law and his girlfriend. With it being family and in a public place i didn't bother with the formalities. I posted the pictures on a public site in order to show my talents to get more clients and was asked to remove them b/c they are personal and privite??? I took them down for now so I don't cause a family issue
