Do I need to sign up for boot camp immediately?

I am not quite ready to sign up for boot camp since I'm ready to start school and should be read w/ it by the end of 2010. I know my recruiter will try to muscle me in to signing up immediately. How should I approach this issue if the recruiter starts giving me a hard time?

Nope / not sure which military branch recruiter you're dealing with to start with - Just tell them this: NOT INTERESTED in Joining the Military at this time in my life - want to persue other career avenues first and see where that takes me.

When I graduated High School - I had all four branch Recruiters and their assistants trying to get me to sign up. I told them - Not Interested / It was nine years later (after completing college and having a variety of unsatifying employment jobs) that made me reconsider the Military Service for an least one enlistment contract of 4 years which eventually let to a ten year career.

well the best thing about the military is from the time you enlist to the time you go you have 1 yr to go to basic than after that you have another yr to go to AIT, so the sooner you enlist the sooner you get time engraved. so if you join in 2009 and complete AIT in 2011 than you can come out being a e4. and there goes 2 years. easy?

It might not be as big of a concern as you might imagine...right now so many people who are signing up are not going to Basic training for a long time...theres like a waiting list to go, depending on what MOS you choose...but you'll definately get a ship out date before the end of 2010. only way to find out is by going to talk to a recruiter...you don't get your ship date or anything like that from the recruiter, that will happen at MEPS.
