I have an '02 Yamaha V-Star 650 that I am buying new pipes for in a couple of weeks. It has factory exhaust on it right now, so going from that to V&H Cruizers is making me wonder whether or not I need to re-jet them. If I don't re-jet will it really mess with my performance, or just not be AS great as it could be? I have no idea on jetting carbs. I would like some advice if you have any. thank you.

Yes you will need to re-jet. Ask the vendor of your new exhaust what size jets you need. To re-jet your carbs, obviously buy the jets. Jets are tiny disks of metal with a hole in them, the diameter of the hole is proportional to what number jet you have. To install your new jet, you need to remove your carbs, open them up, unscrew your current jet and install your new one. The process really isn't that hard, I suggest you buy a repair manual for your bike and follow its instructions.

Vance & Hines have been making great exhausts for more than 25 years. If you need to rejet they'll be able to provide info, including which jets to use. A lot of aftermarket systems (the better ones) come with the proper jets.
If you DON'T have to rejet, you're not making more power, just more noise.
