Do I need to have escort cards if I am having a buffet Wedding Reception?

We are having invitations, programs, a menu by the buffet, a drink menu at the bar.
Escort Cards are the cards laid out on a table with each person's name and what table number they are to sit at.
 
Yes because your guests are still sitting down to eat. The only time you don't use them is if you are having a dessert or appetizer reception. I have been to countless buffet dinners at various functions that didn't have any seating arrangement and it was mass chaos beyond belief at each one. If you were not in the first group of people to arrive, there would be no place to sit since it's like the high school cafeteria all over again. And don't even think about sitting with whoever you came with since you'll only find one seat left at most tables. Alot of people are notorious for saving seats for their friends who don't even sit with them and then refuse to give up those chairs even when they are the last ones available. Save yourself and everyone else a huge headache and assign tables and let them pick the seat they want.
 
well they can also be called seating cards but yes that way you dont break up familys to find a table make people sit with thoes they would not and then let them mingle where they want for dancing
