I've been in Australia for a few months now and my girlfriend's visa is about to be upgraded to an employer sponsored visa, which would allow me full work/education rights for 4 years, as de facto partner. However, this is a temp visa and it would be two years before she could be sponsored for a permanent resident visa.
I was wondering if I'd need permanent resident status before being able to start a plumbing apprenticeship?
I already know that you need permanent status to qualify for help with TAFE fees etc.
As I already have a Uni degree, I would expect to have to pay for these fees, back in the UK.
My main concern is that an apprenticeship might require some sort of government funding for the employer, which I would not be eligible for.
