Do I need midi drivers for my computer to work with my midi keyboard?

I am new at this so please keep it simple. I inherited an old Baldwin ex-20 from my brother in-law and hooked it up to the PC with the midi to USB cable.The drivers for the hardware installed fine but I can't get the VSThost programs to work for the midi keyboard. The programs work with the mouse and computer keyboard. Thanks
