You absolutely need an itunes account. It will ask you for it whenever you downlaod something. There is another way though. If you jailbreak it, you can get them without an account. the problem is that new 2G and all 3G ipod touches cant be jailbroken. Same goes for iPhones. Depending on what version you have it on and when you got it, you may have to get an account. just buy an itunes card and use that to make your account. hope this helps.
