...ON safety inspection? I just recently got a 1995 Honda Accord from the US and brought it over the border to Ontario. I paid the GST and received Form 1 saying I am exempt from the RIV inspection. Brought the car to my mechanic for the Ontario safety inspection who is now saying I need daytime running lights. I called the RIV which said that since the car is more than 15 years old it does not fall under the federal guidelines which means DRL's are not required. I also called the ON Ministry of Transport which also confirmed that DRL's are not required. Can someone confirm if any of this is accurate? If so is there a website or document I can obtain which would back this up? My mechanic won't sign off on the safety inspection unless they can confirm in writing that this is not required. I'm starting to get frustrated with the shop and thinking of calling around to other shops to confirm and have them do the inspection instead. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm located in Burlington, ON. Thanks!
I've brought over other cars from the US within the past 3 years and have not had to add DRL's before due to not having to register with the RIV. Something isn't right here since DRL's are not an Ontario requirement but is on the Federal level. I was told that because the car is over 15 years old and doesn't register with the RIV then you don't need DRL installed.
