I have an old '72 Honda SL100 that I plan on restoring, but first I want to see if the motor runs. Is there any way I can test the engine with it displaced from the frame? I was hoping I could get it to kick over without the battery(since the battery is dead), but some say that the motor actually needs the battery to produce a spark, even though it has kick start. I've been getting conflicting reports, and I'm thoroughly confused.
