hi i'm 20 years old and i plan on joining when i finish my degree in Criminal justice/ Law Enforcement. i was just wondering if i had a choice of whether or not i can start out as a private if i had a college degree upon enlistment. My plans are to go 11b and then RIP after Airborne and i know that the course is for E4's and below, and plus i know that if i have a higher rank starting out that i'm not going have any respect from anyone so as you can see i really dont see a point in signing as anything but a private.

dont be stupid.

you will be a Private enough to hate it.

As an Spc. you will make more money, which you will need after 4 years of college, to pay for that worthless degree you got. I know, I thought just like you did.

The Army will consider you have the wrong mentality if you dont want to have more responsibility and more rank.

You should go officer. We need officers in the Special Forces. If you request infantry you get it.

Theres no need to enlist for you. If you want to, you will lose a lot of money. Trust me, respect is no guarantee. Some will respect you, some won't. At the end of the day, look at what is REAL not imagined.

I spent a year and a half enlisted. The only thing it did was give me a decent base in soldiering. I earned respect by being a good soldier, nothing having to do with rank. If anything, as an spc. they expect more from you.

Why would you want to make 1000 a month in base when you can make 3000? Plus a BAH of 2000+

Go officer, and forget what you know from being outside of the Army. I am telling you from inside the Army, the reality of things.

E-1 through E-4 is really the same thing, only the pay is different. Specialists don't get any more respect or privileges than a PFC does.

You will go in as an E-4, don't go in any lower. It takes a few years to move up to E-4 going in as a private. Go in as an E-4 esp if your trying to do infantry and airborne. You won't gain or lose respect

Going to OCS does not guarantee him the schools he wants. IF he gets Infantry he should get a shot at Ranger, but he is not guaranteed to serve in the airborne or SOF. If that is what you really want than you should enlist as an E-4 with your degree and get it in your contract. Only consider OCS if you truly want to be a leader of soldiers.
