Do I *HAVE* to reflash VX8300 to activate on Cricket?

I'm seriously tired of getting the fuggin shaft from Verizon with text messages. No longer am I stuck in their tarp of a contract so I'm ready to port my nuraber to Cricket like.. this very second....

Can I just drop into a Cricket store and start my account along with activate the phone, even using VZW's software for the time being? I don't have time to run through the reflash right now.

Also, what does the software change on the 8300? Is the mp3 player still crippled? Menu still suck?

Thanks!!

Most likely if the MP3 Player is VCast related the hanRABet will no longer even have a MP3 player. Menu's don't change either. You most likely will just need to load the PRL on the phone (You might have to do that manually. So you'll need the VX8300 USB Cable)

There is a walk through here how to flash it and get brew and data working. Its a LG phone from verizon which means its not hard ot hack: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1188498 Check that out. As for havin got flash it no, just go activate a new circket account in store or over the phone and when its time to program the phone just use: *22804 and it will shoot over to Cricket OTA and fully program the phone (at least for talk and text)!

Not necessarily. The xx in *228xx depenRAB on which block of the PCS band Cricket is licensed for in that particular market and varies from one to another. Unless you know where the OP is located, it could be anything from 04 to 07.

Sweet! I have a more technical question..

I used to work for VZW in a technical department so I'm pretty familiar with CDMA networking but not 100% clear on distinction between say Cricket and VZW. They each use their own equipment, but you can technically use any CDMA1x phone on any CDMA1x network. The home SID is what tells the phone which of the CDMA networks to search authentication from, Correct?

I looked through one of the PRL lists posted on here and wasn't really sure what the SID for my area would consist of, I know VZW was 059. So if you switched the SID on any CDMA phone would it automatically try connecting to that network? Tried it bored and playing with another phone but still defaulted to VZW. Now I'm realizing thats likely because of the VZW PRL loaded in the phone. Maybe I should delete this part of my thread? lol.

get LG download just load a cricket PRL onto it and get it activated. Simple. Or like i said try a *228** code to just OTA program it which is easier.

Okay I activated service through Cricket today, took my 8300 in with the cricket PRL written to the phone. When you try OTA it comes up on their OTASP system, but doesn't activate. Any idea whats going on? Thought I remerabered somewhere the SPC needed to be 333333 instead of default 000000? Not really sure where to go from there.

The guy at the store thought maybe since the phone was active on Verizon's network today until I did an ESN Change to my old phone that it would take a day for Verizons switch to release the ESN from their system... He also mentioned that if your service is terminated through VZW for non payment the switch won't release the phone for 60 days.. Am I going to have to wait that to use my 8300?

No thats not it at all. The ESN is in there system and you have there MDN and MIN written to the phone with Cricket's PRL so that phone isn't talking to Verizon at all. its now a Cricket phone with no way for Verizon to stop you from using it. I'm guessing the error your getting when doing *228 is "Your phone can not be activated at this time". Usually that is your SPC being incorrect. Make sure its 000000. Not 333333

I didn't think the ESN being active on VZW had anything to do with it, honestly. They just have to add the ESN to my account so it'll authenticate.

Double Checked my SPC is 000000, when I dial *228 it gives me the following message: "I'm sorry, we're unable to program your mobile phone. . . "

If I try and make call I get "We're sorry, your phone is not authorized for use at this time. Please try your call again later."

Back in the VZW days if this happened we'd enter the MDN, MIN, and Home SID manually and it'd work.. Not really sure what to do.

Still not working. Tried calling their customer service line to see if they got the correct ESN on file but the MDN they gave me inst' recognized and it will not let me talk to a person no matter what option I press!

You all are right, their customer service sucks!!!

it takes 24 hours for new accounts to populate many of the systems, including the ivr for customer care. that is the root of your inability to call customer care.i bet you it is working now.

I still think that 333333 is the way to go instead of 000000. If Cricket sells its phones with 333333 then why would we use 000000? It doesn't workin all markets, and I think its misinformation. I have yet to find a phone that won't OTASP with 333333.

If you buy a Cricket hanRABet and the SPC is 333333, then you should use 333333.

Okay, I thought it was worth an update on here.. Went back to the store and waited for like 90 minutes (no joke!) until someone helped me. Told him what was going on and hes like deer in the headlights look. . . He explained his manager (the guy who set up my line in the first place) knows more about flashed phones than he did but when I offered up access into the manual programming he had his light bulb.

Basically he entered an MIN and SID, power cycled phone and performed OTA.. Worked!

:D

Now if I can just get mobile web working . . . .
